There are many methods to quitting smoking: cold turkey, nicotine gum/patches, support group, etc. One of the best ways to fight the urge is to not buy cigarettes – it’s hard to smoke when you don’t have anything to smoke with. Whichever method you choose can be successful it just takes determination and will to accomplish your goal!

Patient Care Technician

Is a Career as a Patient Care Technician Right for You?

Patient Care Technicians have evolved into one of the most highly demanded professionals in the health industry. They are the people who interact, on a regular basis, with the patients and try to gather information essential for their treatment. Patient care technicians provide valuable support to both the patients as well as the medical staff of the hospital. The following are some of the essential duties that PCT’s perform:

Providing Care

The main duty of a patient care technician is to care for the patients and ensure that their stay at the hospital is comfortable. For people who require nursing services at their homes a patient care giver becomes the sole authority who supports, and cares for them. A professional in this field may be required to perform various functions for the betterment of patients like bathe them, change their dressings, help them with daily errands, go out on a stroll with them, or even help them out of bed. Such professionals become the caretakers for the patients and look after their everyday needs.Florida Career College Programs

Monitoring the Progress

Patient care technicians remain with the patients and interact with them more than any of the other staff members. Their main duty requires that they monitor a patient’s progress and report it to the doctor when any serious changes occur. They must keep an eye on the patients’ physical activities, like pulse, vital signs, blood pressure, temperature, inhalation, etc. He or she makes a note of all the changes in the patient’s bodily functions, so that they could be reviewed by the patient later on. Along with this, a patient care technician assists the physician and nurses from taking blood samples, to setting up the required equipment for treatment in the operating rooms.

Educational Requirements

To become a recognized patient care technician, a person must acquire postsecondary education. Once his or her education is complete, he or she must receive a certificate of completion, which serves as proof of his or her qualification. A patient care technician studies courses which give him or her, the knowledge necessary to perform all the procedures as defined by the job requirements.

A person who has passed this course is also eligible to receive a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate, whereby, he or she may also work as a nursing assistant.

Students in the Patient Care Technician program at our Anthem Education schools learn hands-on training in areas such as: respiratory therapy aide and equipment training, use of radiology and basic lab equipments, recording vital signs, and overall patient care.

Important Traits

Patients require care and love; therefore, it is essential for a patient care technician to be humble and kind. He or she must have patience and at the same time must possess the strength required to deal with the tantrums of any patient. For those who are considering becoming professionals in this field, they must remember that communicating clearly and listening to the patient are both crucial roles in making a treatment effective.

If you have any questions about the health field or the Patient Care Technician program, contact Anthem Education. We provide those eager to change their lives with a wide variety of programs, including cosmetology, information technology, allied health, and HVAC.

Anthem Institute Kenneth Teore

Anthem Institute Student Succeeds Despite Complex Learning Disabilities.

In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, the photographs of Monroe Township resident Kenneth Teore, a 22-year-old student at Anthem Institute with Autism Spectrum Disorder, were on exhibit at the Monroe Township Public Library during the month of April.

Despite his complex learning disabilities and high-functioning autism, Teore is excelling in the Graphic Design and Animation program at Anthem Institute’s North Brunswick campus. Teore is a gifted nature photographer and his education is helping him gain the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue his goals, which include working for National Geographic in film and photography.

“Kenny sleeps, eats and drinks his program of studies,” said his mother Joananne Teore. “We are so grateful for Kenny’s incredible opportunity to attend Anthem, where not only does he have an excellent curriculum-based education, but also wonderful instructors who have enlightened him about reading social cues and enabled him to be successful by meeting his needs using assistive technology.”

Through his exhibit, featuring a display of more than 20 photographs, Teore’s goal was to educate others about his experiences with autism, dyslexia and dysgraphia.

“Kenny’s story is just one example of how we strive to work with each and every one of our students to help them succeed,” said Maria Veglia, Executive Director at Anthem Institute in North Brunswick. “We have full confidence that Kenny will successfully complete his program and look forward to helping him establish a fulfilling career.”

Anthem Institute’s Graphic Design and Animation diploma program gives students hands-on experience with Graphic Design Industry Standard applications. Students take courses in basic design, digital imaging and print, 3D modeling and 3D animation. They learn to use the same packages and tools as graphic design professionals, including 3D Studio Max and Adobe Master Collection Creative Suite and are introduced to standard markup/scripting languages such as HTML, PHP, CSS ActionScript and MySQL.

Taught by graphic design and web professionals, students can receive academic advising from professional education staff, which also arrange for tutoring services when needed and help organize study groups. Program graduates can compete for different kinds of entry-level positions in the graphic design field, including web designer or developer, flash animator, Photoshop specialist or multimedia designer or specialist.

Anthem Education Group Shares Flossing Tips

The sweetness of Valentine’s Day often overshadows the importance of February being National Children’s Dental Health Month. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tooth decay is the leading chronic infectious disease among children in the U.S. and it can lead to developmental issues affecting eating, speaking, socializing, learning and more. The good news is tooth decay can easily be prevented with proper dental care.

“It is never too early to teach children proper flossing technique,” said Kathie Marsh, Dental Assistant program curriculum coordinator for Anthem Education Group. “In fact, parents can start gently flossing their baby’s teeth as soon as two teeth appear.”

When educating your children about flossing, keep these five flossing tips from the Anthem Education Group Dental Assistant program in mind:

1. Use a threader to assist in flossing. Threaders are especially helpful if you have braces or other dental appliances.

2. Floss before you brush so fluoride in toothpaste can reach between your teeth.

3. Guide floss between teeth using a back-and-forth motion.

4. Slide floss against the tooth surface and underneath the gum line. Pay attention to teeth next to toothless gaps.

5. Practice good flossing techniques at least once a day.

The Anthem Education Group Dental Assistant program is offered at Anthem College campuses in Atlanta; Beaverton, Ore.; Fenton, Mo.; Irving, Texas; Kansas City, Mo.; Maryland Heights, Mo.; Orlando, Fla.; and Sacramento, Calif., as well as the Bryman School of Arizona in Phoenix; Anthem Career College in Nashville, Tenn.; and Anthem Institute in Las Vegas. Students learn chair-side skills, instrument and tray set-up and sterilization, dental radiography, dental procedural coding and dental office skills, as well as proper brushing and flossing techniques and more.

The Digital World Continuous to Evolve and Expand

Computers, information networks, and new media are three components of our digital world that continue to evolve and expand. As the market for new technology grows, the number of jobs available grows too.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently published its redesigned Occupational Outlook Handbook for 2012-2013. One of the updates they made was adding more profiles for computer-related occupations, including: computer network architect, web developer, network and computer systems administrators, and database administrators. The BLS also reports that employment for computer and math- related occupations is projected to grow by 22 percent from 2010-2020.

If you are looking for a long-term career path, studying computers or new media may be perfect for you. Here are a few of the qualities that are necessary for a career as a Computer Network Engineer, New Media Programmer, Computer Animator, or Web Designer.

Interest in Technology

Do you like learning new skills and concepts? Are you a technological trendsetter? An individual interested in computer-related occupations, must be a creative problem solver. If you are hoping to pursue a career in Network Engineering, Programming, Design or Animation, you should have an interest in gathering data, learning new skills, and working in a team environment.

Knowledge of Hardware and Software

It is essential to know that behind every program, design, network, or animation there’s a set of software and hardware that must be mastered first. To succeed in computer-related fields, you must be able to understand the physical components of a network, knowledge of programming languages, as well as be able to program or use software to design and built products. For example, Computer network engineers are responsible for the network security and data storage of local-area and wide-area networks.

Ability to Solve Problems

Being able to work in a team environment with fellow designers, engineers, programmers, and project managers to solve problems or to implement a new product is one of the most important skills for a computer-related career. For example, a computer network engineer will have to determine the best methods for setting up clients’ networks that are efficient and effective. A web designer will have to determine the best user-centered design and technique for developing websites or mobile apps.

It’s important to remember that behind every network, application, website or mobile app there is an end-user relying on your product to communicate their business goal and objective. The ability to solve problems and analyze potential flaws before the product gets to the hands of the end-user is the key to a successful career in any computer-related field.

Are you interested in pursuing a career working with computers, but don’t know where to start? Consider getting your career-focused training at Anthem Education!
